DESCRIPTION:  \nNMCO-Z Car Run \n  \n\nWhen: September 16 – 18\, 2022 (Fri-Sun) at 3pm\nWhere: Art Cartopia Museum in Trinidad\, CO \nZCCC Host: Jason Spegal \nEvent Organizer: Art Singer \nPlease click this PDF for complete event details: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ovPVhJzycC8KWQYRd_7pIQTe1jJMDuTA/view?usp=sharing \n  \nThree years ago Roy Davis and Art Singer put together the idea to have a drive between the Colorado and Albuquerque Z car clubs\, and that is now happening.  We’re also being joined by folks from the east and west coasts to include Kenny Ueda (Johnnie Gable’s son)\, and Walt Bailey from Georgia.  Please join us for a magnificent drive across several mountains to Pagosa Springs and back.  The drive itself will be Saturday\, starting at 7:30am\, driving across four mountain passes\, and totaling 450 miles with about 8 hours of scenic driving.  Art Singer of the Albuquerque club will be leading the drive.  Several stops along the way for breaks and photo opportunities will give plenty of time to stretch your legs\, socialize\, use the rest room\, and fill your tanks.  This includes a 2-1/2 hour stop in Pagosa Springs for lunch and exploration.  The intent is to arrive back in Trinidad for dinner at Rino’s @ 7:30pm with enough time for everyone to freshen up beforehand.  Before the drive on Friday the event will start for those who can make it by then at the Art Cartopia Museum at 3pm\, followed by a break then dinner at the Club 14 Garden Grill & Pub.  While bringing your Z is preferred\, it’s not a hard rule and you can bring another vehicle if needed. \nIf you have any questions\, feel free to send (Art Singer) an email (arts.zccm@gmail.com)\, text or phone message to 505-835-9170. Americana is just past the Purgatoire river on your right. \nSaturday – September 17\, 2022 \nNMCO-Z Car Run \n\nFirst Leg: Trinidad to La Veta – 67 miles\n\nLeave motel at 7:30am (if you need gas or food (McDonald’s)\, these are located at the starting point. Take right out of Travelodge parking lot onto Main Street\, then left on Animas Street. Rt 12 starts right past the interstate (also called University). 1st 10 minute stretch and bathroom break is in La Veta. Continue on Rt 12 through town\, to the Valero gas station on the right side of the road.\n\n\nSecond Leg: La Veta to Alamosa – 59 miles\n\nStay on Rt 12 to US Hwy 160. Turn left towards Alamosa. Go through town (stay on US Hwy 160) where we will take our 2nd 10 minute gas and bathroom break. The Maverik gas station will be on your right just past downtown on Main Street/US Hwy 160.\n\n\nThird Leg: Alamosa to Pagosa Springs – 89 miles\n\nContinue on US Hwy 160 to Monte Vista where we will have our 1st photo opportunity. I will be driving there ahead of the group to get the picture. I will be taking pictures as the main group drives through downtown Monte Vista (try not to let any non Z’s in between you please. Continue on US Hwy 160 to Pagosa Springs. Just past the intersection where US Hwy 160 and RT 84S connect you will see the Junction Restaurant (401 E. Pagosa) on your left. I picked this place since it had a lot of parking space. I have allotted 2-1/2 hours to check out Pagosa Springs. Everyone should meet back at the restaurant by 2:30pm.\n\n\n\n  \n\nFourth Leg: Pagosa Springs to Chama\, NM – 49 miles\n\nHead south on 84S to Chama\, NM where we will take our 3rd 10 minute break to get gas before heading back into Colorado. There are a couple of gas stations to choose from (this should be our last time needing gas). But\, just in case there is a gas station in San Luis.\n\n\nFifth Leg: Chama\, NM to San Luis – 86 miles\n\nWe then head north on Rt 17 towards Antonito. Just after going over the Cumbres Pass we will stop for our 2nd photo opportunity. There is a pull off (paved) just over the pass (about mile marker 5). From Antonito we head north on Rt 285 for just under 7 miles to Rt 142 where we head east to San Luis. A stop in San Luis this will be our final 10 minute break of the day for a chance to use the bathroom one more time.\n\n\nSixth Leg: San Luis to Trinidad – 100 miles\n\nFrom San Luis we go north on Rt 158 to Fort Garland where we get back on US Hwy 160 heading east towards Walsenburg. At this point we have two options getting back to Trinidad. We can take the straight forward route to Walsenburg onto I-25 back to Trinidad or we can take Rt 12 (from where we started) back into Trinidad. We will decide in San Luis who wants to take what route back. Again we need to be back in time for dinner reservations (7:30pm) at Rino’s Italian Restaurant.\n\n\n\n  \nMotel Information\nTravelodge by Wyndham\n702 W. Members that wish to display their vehicles if they want to participate in the People’s Choice voting will receive an entry sheet with an assigned number to be placed on the inside of the windshield with vehicle information on it so everyone attending may vote. We will have a separate VIP area to display our vehicles. \n  \nAll spectators and members may vote. The categories are: 240Z; 260Z; 280Z; 300ZX-300Z; 350Z; 370Z and Z Greatest in show. Only our Club vehicles may enter. We need to have a count for the vehicles that are entering the contest so Empire may know how many private parking spaces to reserve. Z cars should arrive about 8:45am so we can have them lined up by 9:00 am. The public will be invited and can display their cars in other parts of the south parking lot. Car owners can be available to discuss their vehicles. In the parking lot. Car owners may set up folding chairs by their vehicles. The public is invited to walk around and view all the cars both outside and inside in the showroom where there are about 200 cars mostly for sale. Coffee and pastries will be available for all. Gateway employees will be available to discuss their operation and the cars in the showroom. Gateway Classic Cars Staff Member Devin deSimone who gave ZCCC a briefing at our January 22 Event will be our contact to coordinate the August 27 Event. \nThe Gateway Classic Cars facility is most easily accessed by taking E-470 Peoria exit (Exit 2)\, proceeding north on Peoria to Compark Blvd. where you turn right and head East toward American Furniture Wearhouse. Turn left on Highfield Pkwy. Proceed North to the facility at the intersection on Grassfield Drive. The entrance is in the North side of the building. That is where we will meet. The facility can also be accessed from the North. Take Potomac St. off Arapahoe Rd. As you proceed South Potomac turns into Chambers Rd\, that will the intersect Grasslands Dr. Turn right and proceed West to the facility. The address appears on the West face of the building. There is also probably a way to get there from Parker Rd.

APOLOGIES. \n \n \nWhen: August 20\, 2022 at 9:30 AM \nWhere: Parking Lot of Denver Mattress/Furniture row at the intersection of Parker Road and Quincy Ave. in Aurora \nHost: Andy Mortenson \n  \nAs most of you know by now\, I had to cancel the May 21st bike ride due to the snow storm.  I’ve decided to reschedule the ride for Saturday\, August 20th.  Join us for the 11th annual ZCCC Bike Ride. We’ll meet at 9:30 AM in the parking lot of the Denver Mattress/Furniture Row store located at the intersection of Parker Road and Quincy Avenue in Aurora. The lot is located on north east corner of the intersection across from the Sinclair gas station. We’ll ride along the South Cherry Creek Trail 12 miles to Parker and back. We’ll have lunch in Parker at the Hickory House restaurant. If 12 miles is a little too far\, you can begin the ride at the Cherry Creek Trail Head located on the south side of Arapahoe Road just east of Jordan Road in Centennial which will just about cut the length of the ride in half. Those planning to do the shorter ride should be at the trail head by 10:00 AM and wait to join up with group starting at the Furniture Row parking lot. The trail is relatively flat all the way to Parker so this will be an easy ride. Note: E-bikes are welcome (unless you want to get some real exercise). DESCRIPTION:National Museum of World War II Aviation Visit \n \nWhen: July 16\, 2022 9am \nWhere: National Museum of World War II Aviation\, Colorado Springs\, CO \nCost: $17.00 for adults and $15.00 for seniors Guided tour an additional $5.00 \nHost: Andy Mortenson \n  \nThe National Museum of World War II Aviation in Colorado Springs documents the role that military aviation played in the emergence of our nation as a world power during the Second World War. Through a combination of its aircraft collection and other exhibits\, the museum tells the story of our nation’s tremendous technological advancements during the war that were essential to the success of the Allied war effort. \n  \nThe museum displays a wide array of fully restored aircraft that represent all aspects of America’s involvement in World War II. Most of the aircraft are meticulously restored to flying condition\, and many are flown at air shows. (For those who shared our visit to the museum back in 2019\, the new hangar has since been completed and many aircraft that were in storage are now on display.) The visit also includes the WestPac Restorations facility which is adjacent to the museum. \n \nWestPac Restorations is a premier World War II aircraft restoration and maintenance facility. WestPac is a highly specialized FAA-certified repair station that includes paint facilities\, a prop shop\, and a full service metal forming shop. WestPac has been closely affiliated with the museum since its inception\, and allows public access to its facility through the museum’s docent-led tour program. \nWe plan to take the10:30 AM tour which includes WestPac Restorations. We’ll meet at Cabela’s sporting goods located on the southwest side of the intersection of I-25 and Ridgegate Parkway in Lone Tree. We’ll leave at 9:00 AM and convoy down to the museum which is located on the south side of Colorado Springs. Please note that there is an admission fee of $17.00 for adults and $15.00 for seniors. The guided tour costs an additional $5.00. While the tour isn’t required\, it’s highly recommended. \n  \nAs an optional extension to the museum visit for us aviation junkies\, lunch will be available at “The Airplane” restaurant adjacent to the Radisson Hotel which is near the museum. DESCRIPTION:🏁AUTOCROSS 🏁 \n \nWhen: June 25th from 8-12 \nWhere: Adams County Sheriff’s Department Training Center. 23600 East 128th Avenue\, Commerce City\, CO \nCost: $20.00 for each member and $25.00 for non-members \nHost: Andy Mortenson \n  \nFor those of you who are unfamiliar with it\, autocross is a timed competition held on flat\, paved surfaces with few obstructions such as parking lots or airport tarmacs in which drivers navigate one at a time through a defined course marked by traffic cones. \n  \nAutocross courses place the demands on car handling and driver skill rather than on engine power and outright speed. It emphasizes safe competition and active participation. \n  \nSince rubber traffic cones define the course\, the hazards are low. The speeds are typically not as great as those encountered in legal highway driving\, but the combination of concentration and precision maneuvering gives drivers an experience similar to that of a full road course race. \n \nSome of you will remember the autocross event we held at the Adams County Sheriff’s Department Training Center in Commerce City last summer and how much fun it was. A few may have even participated in the autocross down at ZCON. \n  \nWell\, we’ve scheduled another autocross for the morning of Saturday\, June 25th. The event will again be held at the Adams County Sheriff’s Department Training Center in Commerce City. The facility is located at 23600 East 128th Avenue which is about 5 miles east of Barr Lake. \n  \nWe’ll be using their nice smooth 3 ¼ acre skill pad for our autocross. We have rented the pad for four hours\, from 8:00 AM until Noon. We’re going to limit participation to the first 25 cars to register because we’d like to guarantee each car a minimum of three timed runs through the course during that time. There will be a charge of $20.00 for each member and $25.00 for non-members. Please bring cash or a check payable to ZCCC because credit cards can’t be accepted. \n \nHelmets will be required and the Training Center requires that a release form be signed by each participant. The center is in a treeless area and there is no shade so bring sun protection and drinking water. There are bathroom facilities within easy walking distance. So save the date and come on out and watch the fun even if you don’t plan to participate. If there’s insufficient participation from ZCCC members\, the autocross will be open to the public to help defray costs. \n   \nPlease advise Andy Mortenson if you’re interested in participating in this event or if you have any questions.

The trip time is approximately 35 minutes.\n\nRoute: we will travel North on Interstate 25\, take the Firestone exit (#240)\, go east for approximately 5 miles\, and then go south on County Road 19. Jenny is located at the second house on the left. Roads are paved except for Jenny’s driveway which is dirt and about 30 yards in length.  For those who live close to Ft. Lupton\, we will meet you at Junkyard Jenny’s.\n\nAre you restoring a S30 but having difficulty findings parts? Need advice? Jenny Boyd of Junkyard Jenny’s Quality Discount Parts can help. This is not a zoo\, it is a final home for lions\, tigers\, bears\, wolves\, mountain lions\, lynx\, coyotes\, and other exotic animals to spend the rest of their lives\, in spacious natural living quarters\, good nutrition\, and medical care amongst others of their kind. DESCRIPTION:UPDATE📣: EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO PREDICTED SNOW.\n \n  \nWhen: May 21\, 2022 at 9:30 AM \nWhere: Parking Lot of Denver Mattress/Furniture row at the intersection of Parker Road and Quincy Ave. in Aurora \nHost: Andy Mortenson \n  \nJoin us on Saturday\, May 21st\, for the 11th annual ZCCC Bike Ride. We’ll meet at 9:30 AM in the parking lot of the Denver Mattress/Furniture Row store located at the intersection of Parker Road and Quincy Avenue in Aurora. The lot is located on north east corner of the intersection across from the Sinclair gas station. We’ll ride along the South Cherry Creek Trail 13 miles to Parker and back. We’ll have lunch in Parker at the Hickory House restaurant. If 13 miles is a little too far\, you can begin the ride at the Cherry Creek Trail Head located on the south side of Arapahoe Road just east of Jordan Road in Centennial which will just about cut the length of the ride in half. The trail is relatively flat all the way to Parker so this will be an easy ride. We’ve moved the date back a couple of weeks so hopefully\, it won’t be as hot as it was last year. Note: E-bikes are welcome (unless you want to get some real exercise). Please contact Andy Mortenson if you have any questions.

DESCRIPTION:Two-Day Southern Colorado Drive – Car Show – Dinner and Hotel\n\nDATE: May 14th and 15th  (Saturday-Sunday)\n\nHOST: Tom Brunjak\nTIME: Meet at the In and Out Colorado Springs location (1840 Democracy Point)  at Noon on Saturday\n  \n\n\n\n\nWe have rooms reserved for Saturday night at the Wingate Inn\, 4711 N Elizabeth Street\, in Pueblo\, exit 102 (west)\, right off of I-25. Please call the Wingate direct at 719-586-9000. Speak with John (the general Manger) or Rose. We have locked in the price at $116.00. It may change after May 1st so please make your reservations early. \n  \nSaturday May 14th\nStarting our drive from the In and Out Burger located at 1840 Democracy Point\, Interquest Pkwy north the Colorado Springs exit 135. \nWe will have a get together for lunch at the In and Out Burger at 12:00 noon. Members that live close by are welcome to attend the lunch if you cannot make the drive. Planning on leaving In and Out at 1:00 pm. We will get back on the road and head south on I-25 to exit 134 Academy Blvd west to Hwy 115 south to Florence. Once we are in the town of Florence\, we will turn on Hwy 67 south to Hwy 165 south. We will go south on Hwy 165 south to Colorado City. Colorado City will be at I-25\, north on I-25 to Pueblo to the Wingate Exit 102. \nBased on the approximate time\, 4:30 pm we will have a meet and greet at the Wingate’s lobby for snacks and wine\, so everyone has time to check in for the night. Dinner is planned for approximately at 6:00 pm on the Riverwalk\, exit 98B\, at Angelo’s Pizza Parlor\, lower level. They have lots of food options other than pizza for everyone. \n  \nSunday May 15th \nBreakfast at the Wingate at 9:00 am. This will give everyone time to check out before heading back north at 10:00 or a bit later. \n  \nI hope to see a great turnout.

Those of you who attended Matt McDole’s tour know what an interesting and accommodating facility it is. There will be plenty of tables and seating for all who attend. They will supply bottled water and paper goods. Please bring your own sack meal or eat before the meeting. When the meeting is over you will have time to explore the showroom and see all the beautiful cars they have for sale. \n\n\n  \nPlease sign up on the link provided\, if you can\, so we can give them a head count.
