SUMMARY:Drive to Colorado’s Eastern Plains
DESCRIPTION:This multi day\, 400 mi road trip will take us to the Historic Beecher Island Battlefield\, travel the South Platte River Trail Scenic Byway\, and past the historic home of Glenn Miller. We will start our prairie excursion Saturday morning 8:00 am at the Comanche Crossing Museum in Strasburg. The museum opens at dawn\, so if you are there early you can start your day with a scavenger hunt of ten exhibits and artifacts. From here we are headed east to Beecher Island Battlefield in eastern Yuma County. The plan is to be here at 12:00 for picnic lunch. We will turn our compass north towards Holyoke where we will spend the night at the Cobblestone Inn and Suites. Sunday we are continuing our journey north to run the old Pony Express. Then it is westward hoe to the town of Ft. Morgan where we will search for the childhood home of Glenn Miller. Then it is a straight shot back to Denver. DESCRIPTION:The club is arranging a car show at Spartan College in Broomfield\, CO on August 10\, 2019.  Staging the cars will start at 8:30 a.m. and the show will start at 9:00 a.m. It will be the ZCCC Car Show at Spartan College and all are welcome.  The college is located at 10821 W. 120thAve\, near the old Jeffco Airport.  Basically it’s not far from Hwy 287 (Wadsworth) and Hwy 36\, the Boulder Turnpike. The college is planning to have independent judges from the college judge the cars and there will be a number of categories for the awards.  There will likely be food trucks and tents and some booths.  We’ll know more in the next few weeks.  Stay tuned and there will be more details in the next Odometer and at the monthly meetings.  If you are planning on going\, let Ira know and he’ll keep a count. \nLogin to RSVP and see the full details.

SUMMARY:National Museum of World War II Aviation Tour
DESCRIPTION:The National Museum of World War II Aviation in Colorado Springs documents the role that military aviation played in the emergence of our nation as a world power during the Second World War. Through a combination of its aircraft collection\, exhibits\, interactive displays\, and docent led tours\, the museum tells the story of our nation’s tremendous technological advancements during the war\, and describes the lasting social and economic changes that were essential to the success of the Allied war effort. \nThrough close relationships with collectors around the country\, the museum displays a wide array of fully restored aircraft that represent all aspects of America’s involvement in World War II. Most of the aircraft are meticulously restored to flying condition\, and many are flown at the museum on public demonstration days. The tour will include a visit to the WestPac Restorations facility which is adjacent to the museum. \nWestPac Restorations\, a premier World War II aircraft restoration and maintenance facility\, is located on the north side of the museum campus. Housed in a state-of-the-art 65\,000 square foot facility\, WestPac Restorations is a highly specialized FAA-certified repair station that includes paint facilities\, a prop shop\, and a full service metal forming shop. WestPac has been closely affiliated with the museum since its inception\, and allows public access to its facility through the museum’s docent-led tour program. \nWe are scheduled for the 12:00 noon tour which includes WestPac Restorations. We’ll meet at Cabela’s sporting goods located on the southwest side of the intersection of\nI-25 and Ridgegate Parkway in Lone Tree. We’ll leave at 10:00 AM and convoy down to the museum which is located on the south side of Colorado Springs. Please note that there is an admission fee of $14.00 for adults and $12.00 for seniors. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, June 1st\, for the 2019 ZCCC Annual Bike Ride. We’ll meet at 9:30 AM in the parking lot of the Denver Mattress/Furniture Row store located at the intersection of Parker Road and Quincy Ave in Aurora. The lot is located on north east corner of the intersection across from the Sinclair gas station. We’ll ride along the South Cherry Creek Trail 13 miles to Parker and back. We’ll have lunch in Parker at the Hickory House restaurant. If 13 miles is a little too far\, you can begin the ride at the Cherry Creek Trail Head located on the south side of Arapahoe Road just east of Jordan Road in Centennial which will just about cut the length of the ride in half. The trail is relatively flat all the way to Parker so this will be an easy ride.

They apologized for the inconvenience. \nIt has been suggested that we try White Fence Farm one time and thanks to Travis Scott\, he has been able to arrange the following deal for us. Room fee has been waived and we receive a 15% discount with a group of 25. With a greater attendance\, we will receive a larger discount. Everyone is requested to order off the following menu. \nYou will have your choice of 1 main dish (there is enough chicken for 2-3 people): \n\nFried Chicken\nShrimpEveryone gets their choice and all you can eat servings of:\n\nOne Starch:  \n\nMashed potatoes\nFrench fries\nBaked potato\n\nUnlimited sides:  \n\nCottage Cheese\nColeslaw\nBean salad\nBeets\nCorn Fritters\n\nThey suggest that couples order one Regular and one “Light” dinner. It’s time for the Oktoberfest Car Show/Fly-In on Saturday\, September 8th at the Spirit of Flight Center Museum in Erie. \nCar show registration and set-up starts at 8am with advertised show hours of 9am-2pm. The car show registration fee is $10 per vehicle which includes the Pancake Breakfast and admission fee. For the September meeting on September 5\, 2018\, we will be going to The Crafty Fox Taphouse and Pizzeria. The Crafty Fox is located at 3901 Fox St.\, Denver\, CO 80216. It is right off of I-25 in a central location for most members. The Crafty Fox serves more than 60 different types of beer\, has many delicious salads\, sandwiches\, and specialty pizzas. Almost everything on the menu can be prepared gluten free. The meeting starts at our normal time of 7pm. DESCRIPTION:Join us on a drive for a little Colorado History.  We will visit the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site\, and 8 historically significant sites in Cheyenne\, Elbert\, Kit Carson\, and Lincoln counties.  Day 1 we set out from Aurora and drive to the towns of Hugo and Aroya\, and on to Sand Creek.  Day 2 we will be visiting 6 other sites\, but there is a catch…think of it as a Treasure Hunt.   \nThis can be either a single day or two day drive. If you chose to do both days\, we are arranging for lodging and will share the information if interested. \nHitch up the ole wagon\, grab your map and hat\, head out for an old fashioned adventure. And don’t forget your compass.\nThis drive is NOT recommended for your Z cars\, as there are some dirt roads.

DESCRIPTION:ZCCC Fun Run 2018 is here! \nHigh Plains Raceway was a great time\, but sadly due to serious expenses and restrictions put on by HPR the past couple of years\, the club needed to look elsewhere. In the past\, we the club have had great events with the CSP Track in Golden. We will have our Parade lap during the lunch hour\, no helmet required\, passengers and kids welcome. \nThe date is set aside for our event and the fee for the day will be $100. We have two tech inspections scheduled: July 28th and August 1st.  Registration and Tech inspection forms can be found under Track on the website. \nWe are looking forward to seeing members and old friends we have met over the years. \nVolunteers Needed: People are needed for corner work\, pit management\, registration and other duties that come up. Come out and help! No experience is needed and you’ll have a great time. Anyone under the age of 16 will require an adult to be present. \nBasic safety requirements to drive on the track: \n\n Protective clothing — Long cotton pants\, Shoes of natural or non-combustible material\, Long sleeve cotton shirt while on track\nSnell 2000 or newer (M or SA) helmet\n Drivers must abide by all safety rules\nAll drivers must attend the driver’s meeting before the event\n\nHave Fun and Safe Driving!
