Food Donation and Parade Benefitting FISH

05/16/2020 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm

When: Saturday May 16, 2020, 9:45 am
Where: Steele Elementary School: 320 Marion Street Parkway, Denver
Host: Nate Derman
Cost: Food Donation

This is a fun, live event incorporating a drive and helping homebound people through donations. This gives us an opportunity to drive our Zs (or other vehicles) in a group, abide by social distancing and do our part to help the community and feed the hungry.

We will meet at Steele Street Elementary School 320 Marion Street Parkway, Denver
at 9:45 AM and depart at 10:00 AM.  We will leave as a group and parade around Washington Park, honking and waiving if you want.  If you want to make a sign it can say ZCCC supports FISH of  East Denver or Z signage. Hopefully tops down, weather permitting. We will then proceed to their first location, United Church Of Christ, 400 S. Williams Street, Denver and drop off half of our donations.  We will then drive to their second location, Epiphany Lutheran Church located at 790 S. Corona Street, and drop off the remainder of our donations.  These are small churches and don’t have a lot of storage space so whatever you can fit in your trunk will be sufficient.

Needed Items: (Unopened and NOT outdated)

  • Canned meats (chicken, tuna, salmon, beef)
  • Canned stew, dinners (Chile, Dinty Moore, Hormel)
  • Peanut butter, Jam/Jelly

Please check out their website http://www.fishofeastdenver.org/ to find out more about this valuable organization and see the adjoining poster to this article.

FISH of East Denver is a small, completely volunteer, registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has operated continuously in East Denver since 1974. The FISH idea began in England in 1961 and came to the United States in 1964. FISH of East Denver consists of 2 food pantries housed at two Washington Park area churches. They deliver emergency groceries three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays) to homebound people who live in East Denver, from Broadway to Yosemite, south of I-70 to Yale Ave/Hampden.

Please join me and other members for our next social distancing event.  I hope to see you there.
