President’s Corner

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’,
We’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I’m east bound, just watch ol’ “Bandit” run.
Keep your foot hard on the pedal. Son, never mind them brakes.
Let it all hang out cause we got a run to make.
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta and there’s beer in Texarcana.
And we’ll bring it back no matter what it takes.
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin’,
We’re gonna do what they say can’t be done.
We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I’m east bound, just watch ol’ “Bandit” run.
Jerry Reed

On August 24 & 25 ZCCC will again be taking a trip to the eastern plains of Colorado to visit Colorado historical sites. At Beecher Island, southeast of Wray, there was a major Indian battle in September 1868 between Army volunteer scouts and the Arapaho, Cheyenne and Lakota Tribes that resulted in the death of Indian warrior Roman Nose and also the deaths of Army scouts and officers. This is just one of the historic sites we’ll be visiting. There are more details elsewhere in this Odometer.

As announced in July, ZCCC is co-host for the ZCCC and Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology Wheels and Wings Showcase 2019 at Spartan College on August 10. As our name is front and center, let’s have a great showing of club cars. Please see the article elsewhere in this Odometer.

The Constitution Review is nearing an end and hopefully the club will get to vote on the revised Constitution and By-laws in September.

Elsewhere in the Odometer, you will see a proposed slate of officers for next year’s ZCCC Board. At the August 7, 2019 monthly meeting, we will be taking nominations from the floor for anyone who wants to run for the Board.

After many years as the keeper of the ZCCC Concessions, the obtainer of name badges for club members, and the host on behalf of ZCCC of the Ability Connection Colorado (formerly CP of Colorado) car show at Arapahoe Community College, Fred Minister has relinquished his positions. We all thank Fred for his many years of service but now we need someone or several someone’s to take over the duties that Fred so ably performed. Please contact me if you are interested in taking over any or all of these duties.

I want to congratulate everyone who attended ZCon 2019 and came away with awards. I have heard that despite some problems with hot water at the hotel, the event was well run and attended.

Tammy and I are looking forward to attending ZCon 2020 in Nashville next year but I have had difficulty in locating a 2 car enclosed gooseneck trailer to rent for the occasion. If anyone has a lead on such an animal, please let me know. Ira

P.S. I am looking for the Club Banners. If you know were they are or have them in your possession please let me know or bring them to August club meeting. Thank you

Note: Club members will be receiving an email this month with the updated sections to the constitution and proposed changes to language. Per the constitution, any new changes must be voted on by the general membership. This vote will take place at the September General meeting.

We will start our prairie excursion Saturday morning 8:00 am at the Comanche Crossing Museum in Strasburg. The museum opens at dawn, and if you are there early, start your day with a scavenger hunt. From here we are headed east to Beecher Island battlefield in eastern Yuma County. The plan is to be here at 12:00 for a picnic lunch. After exploring and eating lunch we will turn our compass north towards Holyoke where we will spend the night at the Cobblestone Inn and suites.
Sunday we are continuing our journey north to run the old pony express route. Then it is westward hoe to the town of Ft. Morgan where we will search for the childhood home of Glen Miller. Then it is a straight shot back to Denver.

3 Zunday Mystery Drives In Zeptember

Where: Dinosaur Ridge Main Visitor Center
Host: Ira Sanders
Cost: No Entry Fee

I have planned out 3 Zunday Mystery Drives for 3 Zundays in Zeptember. They range in length from 2 ½ hours and 85 miles long to 3 ½ hours and 130 miles long. Each day of the drive, we will meet at the Dinosaur Ridge Main Visitor Center at 8:00 a.m. The visitor’s center is on the west side of C-470 at Alameda Pkwy.

On the day of the first drive, Zeptember 15, one lucky participant will get to choose from door #1, #2 or #3. That choice will determine which drive we do that day. On Zeptember 22, another lucky participant will get to choose one door from the 2 doors left and that will be the drive we do that day. On Zeptember 29, we will do the 3rd drive. After each drive is chosen, I will hand out maps of the route for the day. As the drives are all a ½ day or less, stopping for food will be optional and we’ll play that by ear. Please bring radios so we can all communicate. The weather may dictate what vehicle you decide to drive but we will go rain or shine unless there is a major catastrophic weather event.
For additional info and/or to let me know if you are going, please contact me at president@zccc.org or at the number listed in the Odometer.
